August 2023

August the Great!

August is short for Augustus which is Latin in origin and means “the venerable or great one.” It was the title given to the first Roman emperor, Gaius Caesar and in 6 BC, the Roman senate elected to name this month after him. I think August is GREAT, but for reasons not related to Rome. I think August is great because summer takes on a sense of urgency and I want to GO, DO, RELAX and PLAY—all at once—and on some days I can. August is ripe with travel and traditions that I joyfully anticipate AND with corn on the cob—a nod to our color of the month—blackberries, peaches and zucchini.

I’m all in on August …

Hue & Me

A ripe ear of fresh corn is a sensory experience for your eyes, nose, fingers, ears and tongue—don’t you think? And according to Behr.com our color for August, cornsilk got its name because it is a buttery yellow reminiscent of the ready-to-burst kernels of freshly picked corn, but it’s this definition that I love best: Corn Silk is a light, bright, glow stick yellow with a sunflower undertone 💛 🌽 🌻

That just sounds like the perfect hue to represent summer’s richest and hottest days—so be on the look out for golden yellow and see if you can’t create a reason to use it in August!

Design Inspired

I recently learned that the editors at Seeker, have curated a list of destinations by you guessed it—the category of COLOR. Take their search tool for a test drive—and experience an all NEW and super inspiring way to SEE the world. But did you know? In 1993 Pope John Paul II was scheduled to visit the Monastery of Izamal and the town decided to pull together and make the town presentable from all angles. So it was decided that the whole town would be repainted in the same shade of yellow to give it a distinct aesthetic.
