June 2023

Jump into June

Welcome to June 2023 in Live Your Story. This month is for being present with all the things we want to do and celebrate and I’m here to remind you that YOU get to show up however YOU want—so put on your helmet, grab your bubbles and let’s go catch something cool.

The party is inside of YOU!

Jenny Rosenstrach, author of our seasonal book writes that “Sometimes the sweetest—if the most unlikely—rituals happen by accident.” I agree 100% except that I would change “sometimes” to “most of the time,” so resist the urge to plan everything and instead allow space for unexpected moments and happy accidents. Take time to hug your cat and to splurge on some really good chocolate ice cream. It’s the simple things that become our sweetest memories.

Hue & Me

I can never remember how to spell FUCHSIA so I finally looked up the etymology and in case you didn’t know, fuchsia is a color named for a flowering plant which was named by a French botanist, after the German botanist, Leonhart Fuchs. In German, fuchs means fox and foxes are known for being bright, determined and sly. Interesting! Adobe says fuchsia communicates a sense of liveliness, self-assurance and confidence—perhaps the perfect hue for kicking off summer and being playfully present as we continue to celebrate life and stories!

Design Inspired

If I were to imagine a picture that evokes the spirit of celebration it would be this one. Pink skies, a bicycle built for two and room for a turtle with popcorn to share!

You are invited to learn more this month about Katherine Herrell and to then add some festive to your environment or do something that feels like this illustration!

Love Your Library Video

As we wrap up the 2nd quarter of 2023 it’s the perfect time to ask, “How’s my workflow?” Let’s review, favorite and delete our way thru June AND let’s make some QUICKIE scrapbook pages—watch and learn!

Story Process Videos

I am using the original Story Deck cards this month for a People We Love story, that starts with Memorabilia and involves an Interview as well as something to make you Laugh Out Loud. Member, Cindy Stepan is creating a story using those same guidelines and I think you’ll be amazed at some of the brilliant ideas she shares.

My mother-in-law was a college stewardess for American Airlines. Here’s the story!

Cindy Stepan’s in laws were missionaries in China. Find out how she documented this influential service for her family.

Podcast

June’s 🎉 QUESTIONS:
1. What have you enjoyed most about our Spring season? Tell us about something you’ve accomplished because of this community.
2. After all the planning and preparations for a celebratory event—how do you stay present on the big day and not “miss out” on really making the memories?
3. What is your best “be where you are” experience and advice?

Fuchsia’s have been called nature’s chandelier. I love that. As an element of surprise and to convey a celebratory feeling, my sister once hung and lit a chandelier in a wooded grove for a special occasion.

In our seasonal quote we are counseled to not wish away the normal nothing-special-here days when we are less energetic and perhaps a bit subdued. We can take an example from these ornate redish-purplish-pinkish flowers, which are a delight—even as they droop. There is beauty in the upside down and not all flowers look up!
