Spring into Learning!
In May we are Learning in Places. Consider the role places have played in your learning. Can you imagine a world without schools, libraries or museums? And what of the less formal places like nature, your kitchen table or the hair salon! Renowned storyteller, Donald Davis says, “We're so much a product of place, that we have no way of understanding people (or ourselves) until we have a way of understanding the context of the place they (we) came from.” What are the places that can teach YOU how to better understand the people you love?

Hue & Me
If I hadn’t named our May combination, Hop, Skip & Jump I think it might have been called Mid Century Modern, because for me these colors—in any proportion hearken back to the years immediately following World War II when the words “new & improved” unveiled cars, clothes, convenience foods, appliances and every other sort of modern life-enhancing products. The future was bright and change was on the horizon—in all directions.
Play around with one of these colors in major proportion and then add in the others as accents —I can’t wait to SEE what stories emerge.

Design Inspired

As I helped compile a Julian history with my father-in-law, I was amazed at how often cars came up in his stories. This is one reason, I couldn’t resist a vintage car as a source of design inspiration this month. As we revisit printed photos, I’m certain you can find an old car that has a story to tell. There is truly much available in terms of personality and culture in the cars we drive or others in our stories have driven. In May let the car speak!
Love Your Library Video
This month we are reviewing the Photo Freedom topic: Preparing Prints AND our seasonal contest is YOU documenting a story that starts with already printed photos. Make yourself eligible for a Happy Mail drawing at the very end of May, by posting this page/story to the Facebook group with the hashtag, #LYSMay24contest 🩷 NOTE: If you don’t use the hashtag, you haven’t entered the drawing!
