Sorting Prints

 

Digital photography has been our go-to capture for well over a decade, but we ALL have printed photos to sort and manage and that was the topic of our WWW in May.

Stacy teaches a 3-Star sorting process that can help you determine whether you will keep photos and WHERE you will keep them.

3-Star prints are photos that you feel an urgent excitement for. You know for sure that you want to do something with them in the next three years. Many of these photos are groups that illustrate a specific event or tell the same story. Slip these prints into a Storage Binder so that you can keep them together and can easily find them again.

2-Star prints are photos you do NOT want to scrapbook or do something tangible with in the next two to three years. You do want to keep them and potentially use them someday, but they don’t feel urgent or very exciting right now. Quite often, 2-Star prints just need to be scanned so you can import them into your digital library to manage there. Place 2-Star photos waiting to be scanned in Storage Binders or Category Files.

1-Star prints are photos that you don’t need in your digital library and also do not feel urgent for storytelling. The vast majority of these photos can be placed in the β€œcircular file” (ie. tossed) or placed out of sight in Cold Storage.

During our session, Stacy sorted a stack of photos with us and we discussed several great questions and specific scenarios.
