November 2022

💙 November?

YES. November—already and again. This will be my 57th November on planet earth—fifty seventh! I like to imagine the months of each consecutive year as another layer of experiences super imposed on the year before so that what you choose (annually) to repeat, observe or honor creates and refines the particular, in this case, November story you tell.

Who are the people you celebrate this month?
What are the places and things that mark your way?
Is there something about November that you want to emphasize and keep?
Is there something you wish to alter or change?
What might you do to accomplish those things this year?

As a citizen of The United States, thanks to our Thanksgiving holiday, November is a month for expressing gratitude, which is one reason I’ve invited you to participate with me and practice doing so—in writing—every day. Look ahead at what you’ve got planned and schedule daily time for quiet reflection about the things you appreciate and value most. A daily gratitude practice has BIG payouts for anyone, but is particularly crucial to our seasonal &November project which I’m so excited to dive into!

AND, there is plenty more to explore as well. Keep scrolling and exploring. if you have questions, comments or something to share, please post to the Disqus comments section at the bottom of this page OR send me an email.

Hue & Me

Our color this month is trusted and supportive with a quiet authority that doesn’t need or demand attention. Very Navy is a deep and thoughtful shade of blue—so called since the Royal Navy adopted it in 1748.

Navy is easy to be with—and create with—a reliable friend ever ready to escort other colors in pleasing and popular combinations.

Design Inspired

At least once this month, start creating without a plan. Grab paper or photos or whatever else you need and let your intuition be your guide. Take a few moments to be inspired by Susannah Bleasby. She is a master of thoughtful, intentional composition mixed with an intuitive placement of color.

Love Your Library

Curious & Creative

This month I’m sharing my Do Something with the Box class that I taught at RootsTech in 2020. You can print the handout HERE.

Let’s review photo composition with one of the greats—Steve McCurry. And then we’ll select principles to practice!

Podcasts

November celebrates among other things, television, hiking, kindness and sandwiches!

Live Your Story is kinda like building a sandwich, somedays it’s all about the simplicity of peanut butter and jam, and other days you hanker for a bit more fancy. Either way it’s a sandwich and it satisfies.

Recognize what’s possible each day and joyfully accept it!
