Fall 2024

When we add -ing to a verb it most often expresses imminent or continuous action—as in listening, learning, playing and creating—our 2024 seasonal themes. As a community we are taking action this year in ways that will change and enable us to influence for good the people, places and things we love.

Incredible as it seems, we are now in our final season of 2024, wrapping up another year creating together—AND—I can’t help but think how listening, learning and playing influence our ability to create, especially if we want to create from a place of gratitude and meaning. When we are truly connected to and engaged with life and we allow ourselves to be playful, we will more easily access our creative intuition and be able to strengthen it. Intuition is our God-given internal GPS—our inner wisdom—and creating is a practice that stills our mind, so that we can better hear and act on what we feel.

The average person has 60,000+ thoughts a day, but when we are intentionally focused, the vast majority of those thoughts go unnoticed. Did you know that? We cannot control all of the thoughts that pop up for us, but we CAN do something to slow things down and lean into what we know we know.

That something is creating!

Rote the Quote

Each season we work on memorizing powerful and positive words.
Before each live session, we read and eventually recite (until they are rote) the words of a quote.

Let’s read a book!

Steal Like An Artist by Austin Kleon

Too often we unrealistically envision our creating as pure genius flowing through us and resulting in original and totally unique expression. This is one reason, we’ll be reading Steal Like An Artist in October & November.

This book is an EASY read with 10 specific recommedations for anyone who struggles with the inner critic and false ideas about what it takes to create—that’s ALL of us!

In addition to reading this book, I’m issuing a challenge (an extra invitation) to find another resource of instruction and inspiration for a specific kind of creating that you’re interested in. Perhaps you’ll purchase or check out another book, find a new YouTube channel or take a class—use whatever it is, alongside Austin’s advice to learn or improve a skill and to do some creating!

Let’s make a project!

2024 Album

This year we have undertaken a larger, yearlong project appropriately called Project24. You can learn more about this by revisiting the Winter, Spring or Summer seasonal page. This is where I will soon be posting a video walkthrough of my version of Project24 …

but here is also where I want to invite anyone not yet involved in a project to gather 24 photos that you LOVE and to document them with personal insights in a physical or digital scrapbook—OR—share them with your voice in a slideshow or video format.

Our best intentions are often overwhelmed by the realities of daily life, but it is definitely NOT too late to do something remarkable in 2024. You have time this fall to envision, plan for and execute a simple project for you or something you love.
