Adding Journaling to Layouts

Do you have scrapbook pages that are β€œalmost” complete because they just need journaling? Maybe you’re not sure where to put the journaling or maybe you need ideas for what to journal. Many scrapbookers have a few pages like this!

During Story Coaching, several LYS members shared layouts they’re working on and invited ideas from Stacy and the other members for adding journaling, titles and audio interviews.

IDEAS πŸ’‘ Shared in this Session

  • Add a 6x12 page to include a long story. Stacy shared how to change your printer settings to print on a 6x12 sheet of paper.

  • Create a pocket to add a journaling card or longer story.

  • Add title or journaling to vellum to allow the background paper and/or design to show through or write journaling directly on the background paper.

  • For event layouts, include your feelings and impressions of the event. Was it what you expected? What surprised you?

  • Use Flip Flaps to add additional photos and journaling to a page.

  • Create a sharable link and a QR code to add access to an audio file that tells the story. Then add the QR code to your layout.

  • Let the photo lead your journaling. When you look at a photo, what memories come to mind? Start there and continue writing as other memories enter your thoughts about the people, places, events or things in the photo.
 

🧑 Two Examples


Jeanenne Wilcox attended The Van Gogh Exhibition: The Immersive Experience and shared her almost-complete layout to ask for title and journaling ideas. After our session, she added the title, map, subtitle, and journaling to complete this beautiful layout!


Karen Neder shared this layout with baby photos of herself. She recently recorded her mom telling the story of Karen’s birth (and how her name would have been David if she’d been a boy!) Instead of typing out the entire story for her layout, Karen asked how she could include the audio instead.

Jeanenne is a retired Medical Technologist with a 37Β½ year career at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She’s also been a Close to My Heart Consultant for 15 years and has known Stacy since the Big Picture Classes days. Jeanenne has lots of interests: cross stitch, basket weaving, papermaking, stamping, stenciling and scrapbooking.

Karen lives right on the Mississippi River in the Illinois Quad Cities. She’s a Speech/Language Pathologist and has been following Stacy since she attended a conference in the Chicago area in the early 2000s. Karen enjoys reading, playing her violin, spending time with people she loves, scrapbooking, storytelling, and recycling.
 

🧑 Your Turn!

Grab a layout that just needs journaling and choose one of these methods mentioned to complete it.

  1. Choose a photo and write/type the memories that come to mind as you look at it. Keep going and see where the memories lead.

  2. Post a photo in the Facebook group and invite our members to share their ideas.
