Clean Out A Drawer

During this session of Do It Together, Stacy encouraged us to clean out a drawer with the goals of finding a story to tell and walking about with lots of energy.

Stacy cleaned and re-organized her “out-the-door” drawer, which holds glasses, ChapStick, Kleenex, extra watch bands and such. Other members worked on kitchen drawers, bathroom drawers, bins or baskets of items while sharing fun finds and story ideas.

Steps to Clean Out A Drawer

1. Choose a drawer. Take a BEFORE photo.
2. Have a tray or place to “dump” the items in your drawer and a trash can nearby.
3. Empty the drawer & pull out the old liner paper (if needed). Wipe out drawer.
4. Re-line the drawer (with cute paper, of course).
5. Sort, declutter, and re-fill the drawer, organizing & grouping like items as you go.
6. Take an AFTER photo.

TIP ❤️ If you find items that need to go somewhere else (another room, another drawer, etc), put those aside to put away after you finish the drawer!

Melissa’s Drawer Clean Out

I decided to combine this month’s Love Your Library and Do It Together inspiration and clean out one of my Category Drawers. I have four drawers and chose the one with Family photos for this month’s project. The drawer was completely full!

My goal was two-fold: (1) review the photos to see what I had behind each tab; (2) purge or move some of the photos to give the drawer some breathing room.

I ended up throwing out a small batch of photos, pulling two sets of photos that I plan to use on scrapbook pages in the next week or so, and filling two small envelopes with (printed from film) photos to send to my oldest niece & nephew with a note sharing a few of my stories/memories of them when they were little.

My drawer is now reviewed, re-organized, purged … and has about 1 ½ inches of open space!

LYS Member Spotlight

Kate Holliday and her husband of 34-years (& their chocolate Labrador) live in England in a village called Stoke Poges in South Buckinghamshire, about 40 minutes northwest of London. They have two grown children, both of whom got married in 2022—it was a busy year! And they are expecting their first grandchild at the beginning of March, so she’s going to be a first-time Nana soon!

Kate worked part-time as her Church's Administrator for 20 years, but when their vicar left, her children moved out and she turned 50 (all within about the space of a year), she decided that she needed a change and now works for herself as a gardener. She loves being outdoors, gardening, walking, cooking, and knitting.

Kate has been scrapbooking since about 2006 and discovered Stacy via Big Picture Classes in about 2011. She purchased Stacy’s 'Photo Freedom' book, which caused her to really re-think the way she scrapbooked. She loves being part of LYS and getting to know the other members and being inspired by Stacy. Due to the time difference she can't always attend the Live sessions, but she always catches up on the replays and loves seeing what everyone is doing over on our Facebook group.

FUN Idea for Postcards

During a discussion about postcards, Christy Burger shared that she joined http://PostCrossing.com as a way to use postcards she has collected when traveling through the years. This project allows participants to send postcards to and receive postcards from random people around the world. Real Happy Mail postcards! What a FUN way to pass on memorabilia we’re not planning to use and to connect with others around the world.
