Today I want to review something I shared in our Q&A yesterday.

HEIC and HEIF are short for High Efficiency Image Capture and High Efficiency Image File—these are essentially the same thing. In 2017, Apple introduced this NEW format that captures and saves photos in a space-efficient way—without losing quality. This is HUGE and awesome 😎 unless you want to do something with your images outside Apple (duh.)

Converting HEIF to JPG

So, the challenge is that this format is not well supported by Windows systems and applications like Adobe that must deal with licensing complexities and extra coding.

For the future: It would be wise to go to Settings > Camera > Formats and select “Most Compatible”

For the HEIF images already in your Photos Library: You might need to convert HEIF to .JPG 🤔

AND this video will help! Just click the image or the text link!

NOTE: You don’t need to convert HEIF images unless you edit and/or print outside of Apple. I print these images at home just fine!

IF you do need to convert LOTS of these images, it might be wise to create an Album view of HEIF images. Then you can chip away at this task a little at a time!
