QR Codes

QR stands for Quick Response. In the Workflow Wednesday session, Stacy encouraged us to embrace technology and shared how to create a QR code as well as ideas for using QR codes on scrapbook pages and other projects.

A QR Code is a symbol to scan that links to additional information. We can scan these codes using our smart phone cameras. Hover the camera over the code, then click the link that pops us! We can also change the Settings to add a Code Scanner to the Control Center on our phones.

If the QR code you want to β€œscan” is already on your phone, simply press and hold the image until a dropdown menu pops us and click the link.

How To Create a QR Code

Create or grab the link to the content you want to add. Links can be to photos, videos, blogs, Dropbox files, etc.

  1. Go to QR Monkey [https://www.qrcode-monkey.com/ ] (or another QR generator).

  2. Paste the URL of your link into the appropriate box, then choose any additional features (colors, logo, design) for the QR symbol.

  3. Click Create QR Code.

  4. Download the QR Code png file to your device.

  5. Print the QR Code to add to physical projects or insert it into digital projects and it’s ready to be scanned!

Note: QR Codes are good as long as the link is good. If you are linking to personal files (on a Google Drive for example), be sure to check the Sharing/Viewing options to others who scan the QR Code can access the content.

Ideas for Using QR Codes

Add a QR Code to a scrapbook page to include content or media that is relevant to the topic. You could even add one to an existing page!

Attach QR Codes to framed portraits in your home to share information about and/or more photos of the family member/ancestor in the portrait.

Stitch a QR code into a quilt that leads to additional photos or even a video or audio message from the quilter.

Include a QR Code in a birthday card to send a video or audio message or link to photos of previous birthday memories.

Put a QR Code in a Photobook to include videos that go along with the photos and story in the book.
