The Ideation Process

Live Your Story member Melissa Burnett kicked things off for us by sharing some further details of her use of Trello, which she introduced in her Story Process video featured this month. She was able to share how she uses the organization software/app and she answered questions of those interested in the program. Her Story Process video can be found in this month’s section of the website, and her further details on Trello can be viewed in the replay for this month’s workflow.

Many were eager and excited to try this helpful new tool and Stacy wisely reminded everyone to give yourself lots of grace when adding something new to your life and creative process. Start with simple and then as you figure out what you need, you can add and change and tweak the process to best suit you!

Project 24 would be a great way to test this process out and see if it can help you stay organized this year. πŸ‘πŸΌ
 

Story Markers

Last September Stacy had an idea of introducing topics to help us diversify the kinds of stories we're telling. Otherwise we tend to default to our photos, and we have too many photos, and it can be overwhelming and hard to know where to begin.

This originated with her class Twelve and allows you to keep track of stories within a set of 12 different categories. Stacy talks about this a bit in this month’s Love Your Library video. You can view the list of 12 categories and how they are defined HERE.

She then gave a refresher on how to use Story Markers within your digital library and using these in your ideation process to keep track of the stories you want to tell. These Story Markers can be downloaded HERE.

A Note from Stacy

I am loving my β€œ12 Stories” folder that is now available in my digital library. I have separate albums for twelve different kinds of stories. These albums allow me to curate collections of images that I might want to use on a page/project.

This is a screen shot of my Personality album on my iPhone. My next personality story will be about Taft and his affinity for maps. Telling connected stories will be so much easier with these albums …

This is my Rituals album. I’m thinking my next story will be about our love of children’s books and our favorites over the years. The first imageβ€”spines of books on a shelf in my living room, sparked the idea. I then search β€œRead” in my library and selectively added images to the album.

You’re ideation process will be different than Melissa’s and mine, but this is your month to think about how you want to plant story seeds, so that they can mature over time and so that you will have several potential stories at the ready!
