Digital Markers

Stacy demonstrated how to add FUN and effective Digital Markers to our photo librariesβ€”on a desktop computer or smart phone. These markers are used to create organization and flow as you’re curating and organizing your photos for a more enjoyable scrolling experience within your library. You can create markers yourself, or Stacy has three yearly marker design options available for purchase and download at stacyjulian.com in the shop section here.

Markers Step-by-Step

Whether you purchase and downloadβ€”ORβ€”create your own, bulleted below are the basic steps for bringing markers into your digital library. Stacy demonstrated these steps on her Mac desktop and iPhone. You may have to make adjustments for your devices and applications.

  1. Purchase or create marker images

  2. Download (if purchased)

  3. Import images into photos application

  4. Favorite all marker images
    Adding a heart (on a Mac/iPhone) or a star (Google/Android) will enable a paired down view of your library, where you can easily see your β€œhighlights.” Stacy strongly encourages us to avoid a general library scroll for a filtered view of favorited imagesβ€”so be sure to designate all marker images as favorites, so they too will come up in this view.

  5. Hide marker images
    The feature to hide images from a general view in your library may not be an option for youβ€”and it is done differently on device vs. a computer. If you don’t see an album for hidden images, you may have to turn that feature on in settings, under photos (see image below.)

  6. Duplicate
    You’ll want to select and duplicate markers so that you can create a master set in your hidden album. When you keep one full set of markers untouched, you’ll only ever need to import once.

  7. Set Chronological parameters
    You can place a marker into the chronological flow of your digital library, by adjusting the date and time in the information panel. If you want a marker to β€œshow up” at the beginning of April, 2023, then you would adjust the meta data to (date) 04.01.2023 and (time) 12:00:00 AM.

  8. Unhide
    Once you’ve made all necessary adjustments you can unhide an image, so that it will show up exactly where you want it to!

IF something doesn’t work quite right, just keep at it. Double check the meta data and make adjustments as necessary. Remember too, that it may take a few moments for your photos software to index changes to images, so that they will show up as you determine.

Can you spot three markers?

One that marks the beginning of February and another for March as well as one that marks a family birthday celebration.

Tip: Hiding and Unhiding

On a Mac computer: You can hide or unhide images by selecting one or more and then accessing the drop-down menu under β€œImages” at the top of your computer screen. Scroll down in the menu until you see the Hide or Unhide options.

On an iPhone: Tap the β€œSelect” button at the top of your Photos screen, then select one or more images. Now tap the three blue dots (inside a circle) at the bottom of the photos screen to open a menu of options. This is where you will see either Hide or Unhide.
