Project Play Date

This was our final Project Playdate of the Sumer Season and WOW was it inspiring! It was our last installment in the Story Starter Series with Stacy guiding us through questions and steps that help us when telling a story.

Summer Story Starter Series

As we have gathered each month during this series, we have been remembering and documenting sensory details for three separate stories. In July we started a story about a special person, in August we did a special place and for September this month we gathered to begin our story about a special thing.

Once again we used the Story Starter Project worksheet that Stacy created for this series to help us collect and organize our thoughts and memories. You can download and print the PDF here, but this can also be done with a simple piece of scratch paper.

After our session, Stacy stayed at her table for an additional 45 minutes to lay the ground work for her story about hiking. Her plan is to add identify photos with a bit of journaling on the page and then tuck a typewritten storyβ€”generated from tonight’s questionsβ€”in the BIG stitched pocket. She wants to embellishment a bit too!

A Special Thing

Whether your THING is a tangible object, a tradition, a cherished activity or even a personal journey with a specific feeling there is a story attached.

First we chose a THING and added it to the top of our paper and Stacy gave us the following prompts to fill in the boxes on the page, and dive deeper into our memories to find the details of the story.

πŸ”² Your earliest memory with this thing.

πŸ”² A specific memory with this thing.

πŸ”² A difficult memory with this thing. Where you maybe felt frustrated, challenged or confused.

πŸ”² A proud memory of recognition or accomplishment associated with this thing.

πŸ”² Is there an special person who influenced you or introduced you to this thing?

πŸ”² Can you remember a shared experience with this thing? A time where it brought people together or when you shared it with someone else?

πŸ”² Is there a memorable location connected to this thing?

As we began answering these prompts the stories flowed. It was a delight to hear some of the experiences you shared and the special and important memories you were recalling.

 

Sensory Download

Next we did a quick sensory download for our thing by listing 2-3 words in response to each of the following senses when pondering your thing:

  • Sights

  • Sounds

  • Smells

  • Tastes

  • Touch or Feeling with our skin hands or feet.
 

Complete these Sentences.

And finally we finished this exercise by completing the following 2 sentences:

  • The truth about _____(your thing)_____ is that _____________________.

  • A surprising thing about _____(your thing)_____ is that ______________.
