For Story Coaching this month we were able to continue the discussion we started during Wonderful World of Workflow about what to do with memorabilia. What a wonderful opportunity it has been to revisit the stuff we save and come up with some ideas and plans to incorporate them into scrapbooking.

Stacy shared some great examples she has done with memorabilia recently. She was even able to simply add some smaller pieces into already completed pages!

By adding an insert or even a page protector with memorabilia tucked inside. Here she added a small drawing by her son, Taft to an already completed page, by adhering it to the back of some hidden journaling. She reminded us that we’ve already got an extensive body of work, so we can just “add to it” when it makes sense to do so.

As Stacy shared in her Story Coaching invitation email, we also had the opportunity to address some specific questions submitted by a few of our Live Your Story community members.

• Penny wanted to discuss what is actually worth keeping and what can be let go. How can she (we) winnow down the bulk of what we have and do something meaningful with some of it? Specifically Disney items with maps and memorabilia in formats that are not longer used and can hold so much history. Stacy suggested; touch each piece to familiarize yourself with what you have, sort to organize in a way that is more manageable, and purge to pare down your collection to preserve those items that are most meaningful.
  

• Christy was looking for advice with larger pieces of memorabilia in scrapbooks — scanning vs. photographing. Also, what of dimensional items, like furniture and home decor? When these pieces have a story attached, how can these types of items be documented? Some wonderful suggestions were shared like walking around your home, or where the pieces are while taking a video with commentary on the important details and stories for each piece. Kim Kiehl shared an app called Artifcts that allows you to catalogue pictures of special pieces while adding stories and instructions for how each item can be passed on and preserved.

• And Kim was feeling stuck. She wants to love memory keeping and continue with it, but was feeling some defeat in her efforts — she was NOT alone and so many of you shared your thoughts and encouragement to get through this slump. THIS was a beautiful discussion that you will want to watch for the wisdom and insight shared.

SO many others shared what they have done to include memorabilia and how they are maintaining motivation with preserving and connecting memorabilia with the stories and memories they hold.
