Family Timeline

We talked timelines. Compiling, updating and referencing a timeline is one of the BEST things you can do to keep things clear in your brainβ€”this is especially true if you’re dealing with printed photos and memorabilia not yet a part of a digital library.

You’ll want to create and maintain a family timeline for each generationβ€”or each set of parents in your family history.

Some of you have taken Library of Memories or Photo Freedom, were already familiar with the timeline and were able to add and updated during our time together.

For others this was a new concept and tool and were able to see how to use the form as well as see how other LYS Members have implimented this concept and adapted it to their needs.

 

Examples from LYS Members

Ann Johnson:

I created a tabbed notebook to keep notes as I find information that I need to further transcribe. The tabs are Avery sticky tabs with a few pieces of notebook paper along with timelines. I am working on a large project of "stuff" and I am hoping this will help track down dates, help with items that are not dated or to keep notes of questions I might have. This will avoid all the random notes I have in multiple places.

Cynthia Broadbent:

Here is the Overall timeline which has the biggest dates on it for all
family members back to my grandparents and my husband's grandparents which
you can't see in this photo. The grandparent columns are combined with each
of the grandparents' info being in one column. For example, my maternal grandparents are all in a column "Olson" and includes their combined big dates.

You'll see in the top left column, I have a "dividing month / August" note.
I found it easier to have the years noted by school years when my kids were
in school. Prior to our oldest starting school and after our youngest
graduated I used single years which you can see at the top of this
spreadsheet.

At the top you can see the names of our immediate family members who each
have their own sheet within this spreadsheet.

Below is a screenshot of one of the kids’ sheets. Here you can see what is within the "Amanda" page. In the kids' detailed ones, you'll find their family info including their spouse and children. Major surgeries, major trips, big birthdays, anniversaries, extended family deaths, etc.. I have the same info within our son Josh's page since he's married and has a child now. Within our other two kids info there are major events as well - surgeries, trips, etc..

I also have these saved in OneDrive so I can log into my OneDrive from my phone anytime I think of something I want to add to the spreadsheet. If I’m not at home or if I don’t have a paper copy no problem. Log in and update and it saves automatically

Member Spotlight 🩡 Marianne Durr
 

Marianne Durr is a mother of three boys, 10, 7 and 18 months. She lives in a beautiful valley in Northern Utah, and loves the mountains that surround her home. She has been happily married to her sweetheart for 20 years, and has been scrapbooking since she was 12! She is primarily a traditional paper scrapper, but has hybrid and digital pages intermixed. She’s determined to get stories told, even if most of them are still notes in her phone. At this time in life her EQ is heavy on progress and effort, rather than completion.

She enjoys yoga, photography, building LEGO with her children, and finding new places to explore in nature.

On today’s Facebook live, she discussed non-birthday celebrations, holidays photo traditions, and what to do when a planned celebration goes awry,
