Friday FIVE for 1.24.20 (Giveaway!)

I feel like doing a Friday FIVE + a giveaway. Who’s in?

ONE. Hasty Baker

Hasty Baker is our favorite NEW game from Christmas. We played it over and over again—big kids & little kids—the concept is easy and yet there are layers of strategy that keep things exciting. And this is where it gets extra fun—I just happen to know Brent Mickelson—who with his brother, Marty brought this game to market. How cool is that? They made up a game and now anyone can buy it.

When you play Hasty Baker, each player works to collect ingredient cards to make a recipe—cookies, donuts, chocolate cake—you get the idea. When you have completed five recipes you win, except that another player might spoil or steal an ingredient you need or double your recipe—you guessed it, also doubling the ingredients you need to collect. But no worries, you can draw helpful cards too, like a hasty baker that allows you to draw additional cards and bake faster. I’m telling you—this is some sweet family FUN. You can purchase Hasty Baker here or look them up on Facebook.

TWO. Yeti Tumbler

This tumbler is so awesome. I already have a HydroFlask (which is great) so when my friend, Sue gave this to me I was unsure how it might be different. But … it is. Trust me! It has this MagSlider lid that is so easy to use, so that nothing has to be removed. And it keeps my Sweet & Spicy tea warm for hours. Hours. AND, it’s dishwasher safe. Comes in lots of pretty colors too—white is (believe it or not) my favorite.

THREE. Zip Top Containers

The best way for me to share this Christmas gift—which I gave to Geoff & Sue—is for you to watch this video … if you’re not convinced to purchase some of these, you’ll at least have a good laugh.

We’ve been using our Zip Tops for a few weeks now and they’re pretty incredible. They don’t stack very well, but all of the other benefits far outweigh this minor drawback and my husband is thrilled with the ‘no lids’ feature!

FOUR. The Big Wave

I’m sharing this book that Addie and I read together in homeschool because I have never read it and it WAS SO GOOD. The Big Wave was written by Pearl S. Buck in 1949 and received the  Child Study Association's Children's Book Award it is a powerful novel about two friends who must face the pain of losing everything—and how to face their grief with courage. The timing of this was perfect as we have been recent witness to the devastation of losing loved ones. I don’t think I’ve ever read a more beautiful explanation of how we can mourn with those that mourn and support the grieving process in those we love. This is a book written for young readers, but I LOVED it and found it to be just the kind of story that we need more of today.

You can even listen for FREE with your Kindle or Kindle app!

FIVE. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

I’m posting this not because I think you haven’t heard of it, but because I want it archived on my blog. I LOVE this movie and I’m not the only one—it has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I don’t think it’s news that I’m a Fred Rogers super fan. I listened to this book in preparation for the movie and I’m so glad because it gave the characters and scenes additional context. There is SO MUCH MORE to Mr. Rogers than his long-running PBS show and I loved everything about the way Tom Hanks portrayed him. If you haven’t seen it, please do!

One person truly can make a difference. Remember that!
