Addie Day | 11.19

You can learn more about a fun and somewhat consistent way to document your immediate family in this post.

Today, is Addie Day. Addie was born on July 1st, so that means that the first of every month is “Addie Day” and I try to do something to recognize her. Sometimes I write a blog post—like this one, sometimes I create a post on Instagram. Sometimes I just take her out to lunch or drive through Wendy’s for a vanilla frosty (her favorite.) The point is simply to slow my brain down and remember how much I appreciate being a member of my immediate family—to create positive thoughts in my brain about how much I adore these people. Life moves fast and if I’m not intentional I miss out on simply opportunities for recognition and connection (which we all need and crave).

A month or so ago, I hired my good friend, Mindy to take a few new head shots of me. Since Addie is home this year, she came along and Mindy took some pictures of her too. I gasped when I saw this image in particular—it so captures my daughter! She was chilly, so I had given her my sweater to wear and it’s perfect, because this is what she often does at home and yet I would not have ever had her dress like this for a photo. I love that she is leaning in because that is a phrase we use today to describe someone who is eager to learn and willing to work hard and make small efforts to progress. Addie leans in. I’m seeing this first hand as I have become her teacher. She has documented learning delays, but I watch her create strategies everyday that are suited to her intellect and personality. Addie is growing up. She is becoming her own person. She is bubbly and happy—most hours of most days!

RIGHT NOW, Addie makes corn bread 2 or 3 times a week because it is something she loves to eat for breakfast—with butter and syrup. She LOVES watching Carmen SanDiego on Netflix (you can see the trailer below) and has invited me to watch along—now that she’s on her third time through. Addie makes all kinds of notes on Post-its, both as reminders for herself and as little love notes for others.

The note Addie stuck to her dad’s steering wheel while he was home for lunch!

Life is definitely good with Addie by your side.
